Coffee Connections: Following the Incredible Journey of a Coffee Bean from Farm to Cup

This isn’t your grandad’s coffee.
Because coffee is the 2nd largest commodity trade, it is truly a global endeavor. But what does that actually mean? Why is there such a difference in coffee prices when it hits the shelves, and how are consumer expectations changing?
In this presentation, we’ll discuss the incredible journey specialty-grade coffee, the benefits for coffee-producing countries, and consumer expectations shaping the future of the coffee market.

About Eric Balough

Eric Balough is a retired US Army officer, turned entrepreneur. Like most Soldiers, he is coffee obsessed, but his fixation took a different turn. One day, Eric bought green coffee beans from Amazon and roasted them in a frying pan on his stove. Later, he did a grad school project that set the business foundation for a coffee company that he and some of his West Point classmates started, and things when horribly right (or wrong – depending on who you ask) from there.
Eric lives in Virginia with his wife, two boys and two dogs. When he isn’t fixated with coffee, he is preoccupied with Washington Capitals’ Hockey, getting kids to swim and hockey practice, and watching “Criminal Minds” with his wife.
Like his partners, Dan and Dana, Eric's personal goals are to drink better coffee and be a better human.
